WATER FOR ELEPHANTS (2011)
Penulis skrip, Richard LaGravenese (P.S.
The LEGO Movie
Despite its ‘educational value’, the minifigures have charmed with their cute simplicity – an unassuming blandness that’s seen them seamlessly adapt various big-name properties (Star Wars, The Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, all the key marvel and DC characters), which has skyrocketed their popularity and collectibility far beyond the specified age ranges listed on the boxes. The spin-off videogames – with their slapstick cut-scenes – haven’t done any harm either.
Ignoring previous straight-to-DVD features (made for the likes of Bionicle and, erm, Clutch Powers) and the Star Wars shorts, a LEGO movie has felt like a long time coming. But can a toy best known for its miniature scale really fill the big screen? And how do you resist making the thing feel like one extended commercial break for the Danish company’s latest wares?
Thankfully, The LEGO Movie is so madcap hilarious that you never feel like you’re being sold out. The appointment of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller was a shrewd move. Having cut their teeth on the immensely likeable Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, they went live-action with high-school cop-com 21 Jump Street. On paper, that should have been a shameless cash-in too, but it ended up being one of 2012’s most satisfying comedies.
Here, they’ve assembled a cast of regulars from your favourite US sitcoms (Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman from Parks And Recreation, Will Arnett from Arrested Development and Alison Brie from Community) and teased great work from A-listers (Liam Neeson, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman) to ensure that the funnies fly thick and fast. Bigger than the star names, though, are the supporting cast of LEGO favourites who’ve been roped in to fill out the ranks.
Arnett’s Batman is inspired: a moody blowhard who’ll only work with black bricks (“or very, very, very dark grey ones”). He might get the lion’s share of the belly laughs, but there’s plenty more to go round – 21 Jump Street stars Channing Tatum and Jonah hill have a cracking dynamic as Superman and Green Lantern, and Neeson’s terminally conflicted Bad Cop (whose rotating yellow brick head occasionally flips to the Good Cop side) is an unexpected highlight.
Front and centre, though, are the new creations. Emmet Brickowoski (Pratt) is a bog-standard construction worker who follows every instruction to the letter, until a run-in with punky Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) – imagine a cuddlier Lisbeth Salander – sets him on course to fulfil a prophecy. Their banter creates more sparks than your average romcom and, like many of the gags, you wonder if it’ll be lost on younger kids.On their travels, they take in the Old West, ‘middle Zealand’, Cloud Cuckoo Land and the high seas, teaming up with Batman and souped-up pirate metalbeard in an effort to stop the dastardly Lord Business (Will Ferrell) putting an end to freewheeling creativity with a mysterious weapon known as ‘the kragle’.
If the plot sounds creaky, rest assured that it’s skewered and subverted as much as Batman and co. possibly can – genre tropes are mocked, ‘chosen ones’ are in for it, and The Terminator’s just one classic movie touchpoint up for parody. There’s an anarchic childlike glee to the way it’s all thrown together – as with actual LEGO sets, pieces can be reassembled to create something entirely new – and the various set-pieces, including freeway chases, shootouts and laser-sharks play like blockbuster versions of the fan videos you’d find on Youtube.
Reportedly part stop-motion, part CG-animation, you won’t notice the joins. There’s an insane level of invention on display – the world is brimming with hilarious background detail, and everything you can see is made of LEGO pieces, even the water. The characters are given more expressive eyes and mouths than their toy counterparts, but their movements are just as restricted – and the animation makes a virtue of this, from their clippy hands to their plastic wigs.
The world lends itself to 3D, the stereoscopy making it feel like you could reach in and take part. It’s not without its flaws. Some of the set-pieces feel a little too noisy, and the resolution to one particular plot mystery isn’t entirely satisfactory, taking you out of the moment ahead of the climax. and given the irreverence for just about everything, there’s rarely a feeling of genuine peril.
Even so, it’s likely to be a film that you’ll want to revisit, to catch some of the background gags you missed first time and to wallow in its joyously nostalgic environments.

Howard Hughes - The Aviator
Howard Hughes, an aviator and film director, was born on December 24, 1905, in Houston, Texas. He inherited his family's successful oil tool business and began investing in films. He produced several films, including the hit Hell's Angels.
Profile
Businessman, film producer, film director, and aviator. Born Howard Robard Hughes, Jr. on December 24, 1905, in Houston, Texas. While he is largely known for being one of the wealthiest men and one of the most famous recluses, Hughes had many professional accomplishments before withdrawing from public life. Son of a successful oil drill tool manufacturer, he inherited the family business in 1923 at the age of 18. He used some of his fortune to finance films, beginning in 1926. He produced several movies, including the World War I epic Hell's Angels (1930), which featured expensive aerial fight sequences and a then-unknown actress named Jean Harlow. Some of his other significant films were Scarface (1932) and The Outlaw (1941). During his days in Hollywood, Hughes developed a reputation for being a playboy, dating such actresses as Katherine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, and Ginger Rogers.Hughes developed a passion for flying and founded his own aircraft company in the early 1930s. Besides designing and building planes, he risked his own life several times testing planes and setting new world air speed records in the mid- to late 1930s. While he is credited with many aviation innovations, such as the first retractable landing gear, he is also remembered for one of his biggest flops—the Spruce Goose. Hughes labored on this oversized wooden sea-plane for years, finishing it in 1947. It was only flown once.
After a terrible plane crash in 1946, Hughes began to retreat from the world. He bought part of RKO Pictures in 1948, but he never visited the studio. In the 1960s, he lived on the top floor of the Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada, and conducted all of his business from his hotel suite. Few people ever saw him, which led to much public speculation and rumors about his activities. It was thought that he suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder and had a drug problem. Hughes eventually left Las Vegas and began living abroad. In 1971 an allegedly authorized biography of famed recluse was announced, but it turned out to be a scam. The authors were later imprisoned for fraud.
Hughes died on April 5, 1976. After his death, numerous fake versions of his will surfaced, leading to a battle over his fortune. In 2004, Hughes' life returned to the spotlight with the feature film The Aviator, which depicted his early days. Leonardo DiCaprio played the billionaire as a dashing, troubled young man. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Hughes.
Labor Day
Based on Joyce Maynard’s 2009 novel, Labor Day marks a departure for director Jason Reitman, best known for indie-coms with a side order of snark, from Thank You For Smoking to Young Adult. A kidnap tale with minimal violence that evolves into a low-temperature romance, this is an odd beast, but one that comes from the heart.
Narrated by the adult Henry Wheeler (an unseen Tobey Maguire), the story flashes back to 1985 when he was a teenager living with his fragile, post-divorce mother Adele (Kate Winslet). Life for young Henry (played by Gattlin Griffith) takes a turn when he’s approached by the injured Frank (Josh Brolin) at their local supermarket.
Forcefully requesting shelter, Frank’s soon back at Adele’s house – where news broadcasts make it clear he’s a wanted man, having escaped prison while serving 20 years for murder. But Adele doesn’t raise the alarm; rather, intrigued by the presence of this gruff but sensitive man, she lets him recuperate…
Describing Labor Day makes it sound, well, laboured. The downtrodden divorcee who falls for the ex-con with the heart of gold sounds like the makings of a bad airport novel. Take the sensuous scene where Frank teaches Adele how to make a peach pie. Cheesy? Yes, but not to the point you’ll be sticking fingers down your throat.
If subtlety is key here, both Winslet and Brolin lead the way, favouring gentle touches rather than grandstand gestures. True, the finale may well be unrealistic, but the director’s belief in his characters has earned him a shot at it. One for the shameless romantic, then.
BPL 2013/14 (Game 27) - Liverpool 4-3 Swansea
RESPEK!!!!!!!!!
Sturridge terus membuktikan bahawa beliau addalah penyerang terbaik apabila berjaya membawa Liverpool mendahului 3-2 sebelum tamat separuh masa pertama.
Seperti orang kata, kalau dah rezeki tak kemana.
YNWA.....

Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana bellamy
Have you ever heard about “Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana”? Those place is the famous venue in KL if you want to find Ikan Bakar (roasted fish). The quality? yes it is, the taste is just like the one you can find at the seafood reataurant at Klang, Umbai, and many more famous places for ikan bakar. But the different is, you dont have to go for holiday or near beach to find those fine quality of Ikan Bakar. Now ready to serve your stomach as near in KL itself.
The location is just behind Istana Negara (Agong house). I you do not know where is Istana Negara, the best way is just take cab and the cab driver know where is Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana. Time serving is from 11am until 10pm in weekdays and 11am till 4pm in saturday. Sunday they’re close.
There is about 3 different restaurants that able to serves you Ikan Bakar. Each of the restaurant have different quality and different style of cooking. Which one is the best? I can’t say so at this point of time, but from my experience the first restaurant they called it “Wak restaurant” is the best so far.
However, the second restaurant seems famous which had been covered by several newspaper, magazine and even TV3 programme called “Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan”. The last (at the end of the row) restaurant (Ikan Bakar Ramli) is just simply “extra” where people called it. This is because if you can’t find any seat left at first two restaurant than you have to eat at the last restaurant which also serve Ikan Bakar as the main dish.
The pricing is slightly expensive at first two restaurant. The main reason given by the owners is that they are using grade A seafood (fish, prawn, squid, kerang) which collected from Port Klang every morning. Among the seafood available is Ikan Pari, Ikan Terubuk, Ikan Kembong, Ikan Cencaru, Sotong besar, Udang Besar and Kerang.
So if you don’t know where to go for lunch or dinner today, just drop by at Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana to try it by yourself. If you are so lucky, you could find some Minister or even celebrity having their dine over there. So let’s go now!
BLACK CANYON COFFEE, ALAMANDA
Yazid Burger, Anjung Shah Alam

Apple Cinnamon Galettes
- 1 recipe 2-crust pie dough, shaped into 2 logs and chilled
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 Tbsp + 1/2 cup packed dark brown or demerara sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups peeled and thinly sliced Granny Smith, Cortland or other tart apple (about 3 apples)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 6 tsp unsalted butter
- 1 egg whisked with 2 Tbsp water, for brushing
- Turbinado sugar, for sprinkling
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line 2 baking trays with parchment paper. Pull the pie dough from the fridge 20 minutes before rolling.
- Slice each log into 3 pieces and roll each piece out on a lightly floured work surface to just under 1⁄4-inch thickness and 8-inches across. Place 3 onto each baking tray and chill while preparing the filling.
- Stir the sour cream, 2 Tbsp of brown sugar and vanilla together. In another bowl, toss the apples, remaining 1⁄2 cup of brown sugar and cinnamon together.
- Spoon the sour cream into the centre of each rolled piece of dough and top with the sliced apples. Place a teaspoon of butter on the top of each tart. Fold the dough over the apples, making 5 or 6 creases overlapping each other so that the apples are almost fully covered. Brush the pastry with the eggwash and sprinkle generously with granulated sugar.
- Bake the galettes for about 25 minutes, until the pastry is a rich golden brown colour. Let the galettes cool for at least 20 minutes before serving warm, or cool completely and serve at room temperature.
- The galettes should be served warm or at room temperature, but can be stored chilled for up to 3 days.

Caramel Springs
These garnishes are little coils of caramelized sugar can be used to decorate cakes or individual plated desserts. Like any small decorative work, they take a little practice - they key is to boil your sugar JUST until it starts caramelizing, not turning a full amber colour. This provides a cooked sugar with more flexibility, and is easier to stratch and spiral.
- Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp glucose syrup** or white corn syrup
- Methods
- Before cooking your sugar, have ready a parchment lined baking tray, a few clean tablespoons and a few wooden spoons with straight, unpainted handles. Lightly grease the handles with cooking spray or vegetable oil (rubbed on with a paper towel).
- Add the water, sugar and glucose (or corn syrup) to a small saucepot and bring to a boil over high heat, without stirring. Continue to boil, occasionally brushing the sides of the pot with cold water, until the sugar barely begins to colour. Remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool to the point where it no longer drips off a spoon in droplets, but can be pulled and stretched (be careful, it will be hot)
- Dip a tablespoon in the caramel and hold the wooden spoon over the pot, letting the caramel slowly catch onto the handles of the wooden spoon. Slowly twirl the wooden spoon so that the caramel wraps around it, spiraling into a coil or “spring”. After about 5 to 8 rotations, set aside the spoon to set for just a minute, then carefully twist and remove the spring and set aside. Repeat this with the remaining sugar (it does take a little practice to develop a rhythm and flow) and don’t worry if a few springs break or aren’t perfect – these can be crushed up and sprinkled onto desserts or ice cream. If the sugar becomes to hard to work with, put it back on low heat and stir just a little to re-melt it.
- The springs will keep up to a week in an airtight container.
- **Glucose syrup can be found where you find cake decorating supplies.
Takers (2010)

Selaku pemeran utama, watak berat Merong digalas Stephen Rahman-Hughes seadanya.

Scottish shortbread
Ingredients
- 200 g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
- 50 g caster sugar, plus extra for sprinkling over
- 125 g unsalted butter
Chocolate, orange and caraway:
- zest of 1 orange
- 30 g good-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
Lavender and honey:
- 2 tablespoons lavender honey
- 20 g lavender sugar (use only 25g caster sugar in the main ingredients when making this version)
Lemon thyme and vanilla:
- ½ a small bunch of fresh lemon thyme, leaves picked
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or paste
Method
I know you can buy shortbreads everywhere these days, but great as some of those biscuits can be, nothing comes close to a batch cooked that day, or even that week. It's having the real version of something, rather than the 'buy one get one free' version, that makes us appreciate it. The simplicity of these biscuits makes them a wonderful base for desserts with cream and fruit, or a crumbly topping for trifles and stewed fruits. But for me the very best way to celebrate this humble biscuit is with a cup of tea.
You can have these biscuits plain, or scent them with everything from lemon or tangerine, to lavender, lemon thyme or caraway seeds. Just don't go mad with these flavours, because a little goes a long way and these are nicest when the flavours are subtle.
Preheat the oven to 170°C/325°F/gas 3. Mix the flour and sugar together in a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter with your thumb and forefinger, then add your chosen flavourings (if you're using chocolate or seeds you might want to push these into the dough at the end, after you've rolled it out) and squash, pat and push it into a dough. Don't knead it, you just want to pat it down flat. Push or roll it out until it's 1cm thick – do this directly on to a baking sheet lined with greaseproof paper so you don't have to move it. Once it's in the shape you like – which could be square, round, or a few small finger-shapes – feel free to thumb or pinch the edges. If it splits or tears, just press it back together – but remember, the less you work the dough, the shorter and better these biscuits will be.
If you want to score lines on the shortbread so that you can click the biscuits off into pieces later, you can. Sprinkle over some caster sugar, then pop the baking sheet into the oven and cook for 20 to 30 minutes. Keep an eye on it – you want a lovely light golden colour (unless you're making the lavenderhoney version, which will be darker). Leave to cool, then put away in a tin or serve. These will be delicious for two or three days and make a lovely present for someone special.
